Surreal

saw the tracks, smelled the smells – pungent, beastly - felt a presence,
like a breathing down one’s neck, but eventually returned to the camp, haunted.

‘Twas only later that we met them, on the other side of the river. A pride of lionesses gnawing at a buffalo carcass caught during the night. They eyed us from a short distance.

To this day I find it hard to convey the surreal quality of these walks and encounters of the Okavango delta
